You attended a philosophy seminar in which the tutor suggested that all exams in schools and colleges be abolished. You have made notes below.

Abolish exams

  • Students are denied the enriching experience of learning because they are under too much pressure to pass the exam.
  • Exams are not very effective because they test memore rathre than intelligence.
  • It's not a fair process; exam stress affects some students more than others. Not everyone performs well in exams.

Other students at the seminar express their opinions

  • "But working towards the final exam often gives us the motivation we need in order to study."
  • "Exam-based assessment is a good way of figuring out whether a student has really understood what they have been taught."
  • "Taking exams at school and university is actually a good life skill because it trains us to plan."

Students’ examinations are a hotly-debated topic that often divides opinion. Regarding to the philosophical view of a tutor to ban all school examinations there are two opposite points to be discussed. Some students are in favour of abandoning all the exams while others find this idea not sensible. Let’s speculate all the points of the subject.
On the one hand, the belief that all the tests do not play the sufficient role in checking knowledge seems to be practical. While being tested students are more concentrated in the recollection of the material than in the exact knowledge they obtained. In this case, the intelligence doesn’t play the functional role since it is not checked properly. Some of the students dispute the psychological fact that examinations have a negative impact on student’s mind pointing out stressful process. Everybody has different personalities and some scholars experience traumatic effect which can negatively outcome on the result of the tests. Consequently, the situation creates psychological trauma and students can be emotionally and cognitively overwhelmed.
On the other hand, there are ones who oppose this view and believe that examinations provide students with inspiration to move further. Moreover, by being motivated they get improved grades, and consequently, enhanced knowledge. Some opponents do not support the idea of banning exams for the reason that tests offer students a great possibility not only acquire valuable experience, which they can use in their future life, but also keep them organized. As a case in point, by getting ready for the exams students learn such imperative skills as time management, decision making and goal setting, the skills, that are expected to be beneficial in all aspects of their life.
Taking all this into consideration, I firmly believe that exams is the only method in educational process which can present ( deliver) accurate information about learnes' knowledge. Even though, it could be nerve-wracking and demanding, it is still gainful and advantageous.

Vegetarian eating is a hotly-debated topic that often divides opinion. Regarding to the professor’s decision to remove all meat product from cafeteria, there are two opposite points to be discussed. Some students are in favor of including only vegetarian food on the menu, while others claim that protein nutrition is an essential part in human’s body. . Let’s speculate all the points of the subject.
Firstly, it is common knowledge that meat product contains a lot of fat and can negatively impact on people’s health. Recent research suggests that that persons who consume much beef and pork are at the risk of being overweight and even getting a cancer. Therefore, a siggestion to avoid eating meat could be sensible and functional. Secondly, some of the students dispute the fact that neglecting such food can have a positive impact on the environment. A new report has found, that growing food for the world’s burgeoning population is likely to send greenhouse gas emissions over the threshold of safety, unless more is done to cut meat consumption. In this case, a widespread switch to vegetarianism would decrease emissions.
On the other hand, there are students who oppose this view and believe that vegetarians do not get appropriate amount of minerals and vitamins, which could be found in the meat. Since meat product is the main source of protein, lack of it can cause serious problems with well-being. Moreover, by having only carbohydrates and sidestepping protein one can not only reduce muscle protein synthesis but also lose lean muscle mass. Some opponents do not support the idea of banning meat from the cafeteria for the reason that it restricts their right to make a choice. As a case in point, everybody has their own priorities in selecting meal and all of them should be respected.
Taking all this into consideration, I firmly believe that keeping a balanced diet by having both meats and vegetables could be the superlative option. Therefore, elimination meat in the cafeteria is not the best idea due to the fact that it does not give students freedom to eat what they want.
