1. Nuclear family - family group consisting of a pair of adults and their children.
EX. Most households in the Western world tend to be nuclear families.
2. Extended family - larger than the nuclear family - consisting of aunts, uncles, and cousins all living nearby or in the same household.
EX. If you live with your extended family they can help to look after the children.
3. Single-parent - a parent, not living with a spouse or partner, who has most of the
day-to-day responsibilities in raising the child or children.
EX. Some people believe that it is not good for children to grow up in a single-parent household.
4. Dysfunctional Family - a family where there is conflict, misbehavior, and often child neglect, resulting in poor emotional and physical health.
EX. The child comes from a very dysfunctional family. The father was violent and is now in prison and the mother has a drugs problem.

Marital status and related words.

1. married ( to get/be married) - married means relating to marriage or to people who are married.EX. EX. My parents have been married for 14 years
2. engaged ( to get/be engaged) - when two people are engaged, they have agreed to marry each other.
EX. They got engaged on my eighteenth birthday.
3. separated - someone who is separated from their wife or husband lives apart from them, but is not divorced.
EX. Most single parents are either divorced or separated.
4. divorced - someone who is divorced from their former husband or wife has separated from them and is no longer legally married to them.
EX. He is divorced from Roxy's mother, Julia, but they live nearby.
6. a widow is a woman whose spouse has died and who has not married again.
7. a widower is a man whose spouse has died and who has not married again


Positive Adjectives to describe a family.

1. Gentle and loving - kind, mild and calm.
EX. My mother is gentle and loving. I don’t know what I would do without her precious care and love.
2. trustworthy ( reliable, respnsible)
3. resourceful . Someone who is resourceful is good at finding ways of dealing with problems.
My brother is trustworthy and resourceful. Besides, he knows what to do in every situation! He is such a wonderful hustler!
4. wise. A wise person is able to use their experience and knowledge in order to make sensible decisions and judgments.
EX. My grandfather is very wise because he gives me very good advice each time I have a problem. I enjoy my grandmother’s wisdom too.
4. sincere. If you say that someone is sincere, you approve of them because they really mean the things they say.
EX. My mother is really sincere with me since we can talk about almost anything.
5. mature. When a child matures, it becomes an adult.
My sister is very mature for her age, yet she doesn’t seem to realise this. I am always impressed by her immaturity.

4. Negative Adjectives to describe a family.

1. restless. If someone is restless, they keep moving around because they find it difficult to keep still.
2. selfish. If you say that someone is selfish, you mean that he or she cares only about himself or herself, and not about other people.
EX. My little sister is very restless and a little selfish. She always wants to have the best things for herself.
2. arrogant. Someone who is arrogant behaves in a proud, unpleasant way towards other people because they believe that they are more important than others.
EX. My father can sometimes be arrogant when he wants his ideas to be adopted by all of us.
3. unreasonable. If you say that someone is being unreasonable, you mean that they are behaving in a way that is not fair or sensible.
My mother is very unreasonable when it comes to household tasks. I mean, whoever wants to do the dishes at 11 o’clock in the evening?
4. spoiled. A spoiled child is a child who has been given everything he wants, which has a bad effect on his character.
I used to be very spoiled when I was a kid. I could literally get anything I wanted. I just had to cry loudly and stomp my feet.
5. thoughtless. If you describe someone as thoughtless, you are critical of them because they forget or ignore other people's wants, needs, or feelings.
6. cruelSomeone who is cruel deliberately causes pain or distress to people or animals.
My uncle can be thoughtless and cruel at times when he says something about my performance at school. I don’t like his caustic comments.
6. bossy. If you describe someone as bossy, you mean that they enjoy telling people what to do.
My aunt is at times overbearing and bossy, due to her spoiled upbringing.
7. irritable. If you are irritable, you are easily annoyed.
Such children are expected to be less fussy and, thus, less irritable than other children.
8. overprotective - wishing to protect too much.
Children who have had overprotective parents do not build up a strong character to deal with the outside world

Household chores.

1.cleaning windows
EX. I really like doing household chores but I hate cleaning windows because it is a difficult task.
2. making the bed
EX. Making the bed is the first chore I do when I wake up. This sets a productive pace for the day.
3. mopping the floor
EX. My mother spends her whole day mopping the floors. She wants her house to be spotless!
4. dusting surfaces
EX. I prefer dusting surfaces to sweeping.
5. ironing the clothes
My cousin doesn’t like ironing the clothes so his trousers and shirts are always crumpled.
6. putting away toys
When we were young, my mother often told us that putting away toys was good for us because we would always live in a tidy space.
7. vacuuming
It's important to vacuum regularly.
8. doing the laundry
I am responsible for doing the laundry in my family.
9. washing the dishes
I have to wash the dishes and do the shopping.
